It All Falls Down to the Lollipop Chainsaw Punk of PLEASER “Plunge”

I’d never heard of lollipop chainsaw punk until I heard of PLEASER. Now it’s my new favorite genre, even if this is the only band that ever claims it! Pleaser pairs provocative punk vocals with grinding riffs that really make me want to go out and redecorate a church with hellfire! I’m watching their new video for “Plunge” and it’s got me dancing on the future graves of the industry leaders who are out to cast the blame for climate change on anyone but themselves and their relentless drive for profit! I’m dancing to their menacing sound while I picture greedy government overlords and pharmaceutical execs dying on the streets like the citizens who they’ve led to addiction and left to overdose. It’s off their new self-titled record out September 8th via Part Time Recordspre-order it here. Check it out:

“Plunge” presents the essence of Pleaser. Sung in unison from beginning to end, the song expresses the intensity of constantly fighting the dark. The arrangement is hectic and chaotic with glimpses of lightness and relief. The end result is both one of desperation and solace. Being able to finally let go of a firm grip held for too long out of necessity.

The video is set in suburban Denmark with all its familiarity, longing for escape, comfort and tragedy. Echoing the music, the video depicts a communal recitation of a protective spell that promises hope, struggle and mental health. Looming housing projects conjure images of piles of nitrous oxide cartridges, unlikely communities and everyday humdrum life.”
