I call a lot of music “crushing” but this GRAVA track “Crusher” takes sonic heaviness to another weight class. I can feel my chest buckling under the riff tonnage their blackened sludge is pressing down on me! Inspired by the feeling of dying under an elephant’s giant foot, “Crusher” definitely invokes fear, pain, desperation, and release with this track! “Crusher” is a song off our debut album Weight of a God which came out on 28 November last year. The way the album was written was basically the three of us in a room going over riffs, beats, and ideas while talking about the lyrics and their background. “Crusher” is our first video, and we wanted it to reflect the essence of the album, so we hooked up some lights in our rehearsal space and played the song while a couple of friends filmed it.
GRAVA
The song is about a man who is condemned to be trampled to death by a work elephant in front of a crowd of onlookers. Throughout the ordeal, the beast starts to become almost godlike in his mind. Almost as if the weight he is feeling is a punishment from Ganesh himself, or a similar deity. The lyrics were inspired by stories Atli read about when travelling in Southeast Asia. Using animals in this way was probably rare, but it did happen from time to time.
