As soon as I hit play on the new offering from one-man Belgian death-doom project Gateway, I’m feeling the cold mist come swirling in around me and my flesh starts to relinquish its resistance to gravity. There’s something about the sorrowful riffs and crashing percussion that’s telling my soul the time to release is nigh. Death comes to us all, and why not when it sounds as beautiful as this? Listening to Gateway, I can feel the moss pricking my skin with its hungry roots, ready to return my flesh to the universe. The project is helmed by “R,” accompanied by guest leads from “M” on his new album Flesh Reborn that’s out on May 7th via Chaos Records – pre-order it here.
