My mind is open and my soul is free, which is why I’ll never be tied down to one genre or one way of looking at the world! I love all sorts of music and people – this is a fact that goes to the core of who I am. When I look at the Punk or Metal scenes, I sometimes wonder why everyone looks and sounds the same in order to fit within the boundaries of the subculture they belong to. Have you ever looked at Black Flag in the 80’s and notice that they didn’t wear the Punk uniform? In its own way, that’s way more Punk than being covered in studs and spikes. The same can be said for music – I find myself listening to bands or artists that don’t fit into the cookie cutter construct of what Punk, Metal or Hip Hop is supposed to be. It’s these artists that are pushing the boundaries to places I didn’t know existed, and that’s what keeps me excited about music. Today I want to feature performances by DIS FIG and DREAMCRUSHER, two artists that are definitely pushing boundaries. I also want to salute two labels that are giving space to next level artists – PTP and CORPUS!
