After a long a day at work or school, sometimes the only thing you wanna do (just short of punching your boss’ stupid fucking face) is go home, masturbate, poison your body, and blast some tunes. Most of the time, you know exactly what band you’re gonna jam to calm your nerves. For some, it’s Morrissey, for others it’s Black Flag; personally, I usually put on New Found Glory and drink my own tears. But today, for some reason, your “fuck my worthless life playlist” has gone stale and you’re fucking losing it!!! Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered – all you need to do is sit back, put down the gun, and pick up the nearest bottle or bong you’ve got lying around because Shrine of the Serpent is gonna transport you to another dimension! If you’re a fan of bands like Neurosis, Seven Sisters of Sleep and Cult of Luna, then Portland Oregon’s Shrine of the Serpent will be an excellent addition to your record collection.
If you’ve been horny for some new doom/sludge to get off to, then this is the band for you. Shrine of the Serpent embraces a heavy tone, and it is almost impossible to not bang your head for the duration of every song. Each song on the band’s three song EP is carefully crafted to ensure that the listener gets a perfect blend of guitar, bass, drums and vocals. The levels on these recordings are phenomenal, and any band that takes pride in engineering a record is almost guaranteed to deliver in the live setting as well.
This band is heavier than a bag full of hammers and sludgier than a tar pit. It would be a shame if this doom/sludge gem were to go ignored. Even the dark lord himself probably rocks out to this band, and if Satan digs it, then so should you!!! Well, what are you waiting for? Go get possessed by Shrine of the Serpent.
