When I first saw Daikichi Amano‘s photography, my immediate reaction (after my stomach finished churning) was one of respect for what I saw as his commentary on the consumption of women’s bodies. His subjects, all nude women, are being trapped and dissected like seafood, bringing a whole new perspective to the naked lady sushi bar. Just as the octopi are netted, chopped, and eaten, so are women’s bodies caught in the nets of patriarchal media and fed piece by piece, lifeless breast and thigh, to the masses. I started to dig deeper into Daikichi Amano, and found his book Human Nature, which looks pretty cool. Then I found his website genki-genki.com, a collection of crazy-ass roach, maggot, octopus, worm, and choking porn. Now I am confused.
