We talk a lot about the massive punk scenes in Cali and New York, London and Paris, but Canadian cities also their own small but influential punk scenes. I recently came across this rad collection of portraits of a group of Ottawa punks and punk bands from 1980-1984. The punk scene there looks small and tight knit, but still had Crucufix and MDC traveling out there on tour, along with Vancouver bands like DOA. There are photos of the punks protesting missile shipments and rocking against racism, which sounds familiar 40 years later, doesn’t it? Thanks to the photographer ragamuffin1984 for capturing this scene while I was just a toddler.
