The kids will be united and the kids will rebel! This was just the case with what happen with punk in the 80’s. Early on, because of MRR I knew that what was taking place in SoCal was taking place all over the world simultaneously. The impact that punk had on the world is still being felt today. Because of the internet, we can now see what was taking place in France during the 80’s when it came to punk rock. Check out these portraits of French Punks living their lives in the wake of nuclear war! When I look at these flicks, I see that me and my homies were not alone at all…Punk is a disease that spread around the globe!

Great era for me. No uk flags for me… For me punk rock is from USA. Then Uk take it for social revolt and it’s ok for that. French punks are more for Fun. Then like Mid 80’s with “independant” time the battle will be social…

Ah seeing this just kinda makes me feel a bit sad and depressed, especially the thought that I will never see sights such as these on the streets. I dunno whats wrong with me – maybe I shouldn’t have been born at this time and be a part of this generation or I wasn’t supposed to be this what I am. Saddening, but I guess thanks to people like me who respect the vintage alternative, these subcultures stay alive.

Hi Sean, thank you for this article and the pictures. The Punk movement was big and beautiful (especially in Paris) in those days. Lots of found memories. We were very much into the music and were attending all concerts. In your pictures, I am the girl with the hat underneath a pair of boxing gloves and a UK flag. That pic is from 79. Even though I was 17 at the time, I had been a punk since the end of 1976 and I was going back and forth to London ( where I am living now) where I had had the chance to meet with lots of band members such as the Clash, the Pistols, Generation X…. Life was good but very often tough (sleeping in the streets ect…) on that pic I can see the signs of fatigue already showing (even the look was slowly tuning down). Anyway, thank you for that. Lots of those people in the photos were my friends, some still are and it’s a blessing, some are unfortunately prematurely dead but not forgotten. Juliette
PS: I am playwright now, and last year I wrote a play about those days and the punk scene.
