Stepping into Lili Refrain‘s universe is like stumbling into some esoteric ritual. I’m standing on the edge of an obscure magic, but as “Ahi Tapu” unfolds around me I can’t help but be pulled into the rhythmic dance. It’s part ancient percussion and part electronic futurism, and the vocals feel like ghosts rising out of another dimension to teach me how to connect with the elements. It’s off her album MANA that’s out now via Subsound Records — get it here. The album made its live debut at Roadburn 2022, where the audience got to witness Lili Refrain perform it in full. Today we’re excited to share the captivating video for “Ahi Tapu” with you, so hit play and let their sonic spells weave around you.
I’m very proud of this work. This video is the result of Lili Refrain’s visions together with the precious collaboration of Teatro Cantiere, “Ahi Tapu ” is the word that defines rituals and ceremonies related to Fire, sacred element of deep transformation
