I still remember way back in our first year of CVLT Nation, before we had any idea of the path we’d embarked upon when we got a package from Forcefield Records. At the time, we didn’t get too many packages from labels because we weren’t really anybody worth shipping shit to yet. Forcefield had just pressed the first studio record from this Richmond, VA doom-psych band we’d never heard of called WINDHAND. But when we hit play on that self-titled record we knew this band was special and would be a defining presence in doom! Forcefield sent us one purple vinyl from that first pressing, and we gave it away (still kicking ourselves, but congrats to whoever won that giveaway). Fast-forward nine years and we’ve watched Windhand grow into a force of doom nature and we’re in a pandemic and they’ve got a Levitation Sessions full set premiering on Saturday, November 14th! But since you’re here with the OGs today you’re getting a sneak peek of their track “Grey Garden” from the set. So stoked for the success that the beautiful folks from Windhand – Dorthia, Garrett, Parker, and Ryan – are experiencing! It was great to get together with the band after so many months apart, to plug in all the gear and let the demons loose once again. For a moment there it almost felt like being back on the road. We got to work with our old friends like Jonathan Kassalow (lighting and organ), and frequent music video collaborator Jordan Vance. They pulled it all together and made the show a heavy visual experience to pair with the audio which was recorded and mixed by our live sound engineer, Chris Moore. We look forward to seeing you on the road sometime soon at a real show, but this is as close as we’ll get for now. Hope y’all enjoy.
