Watch your Blood Letting with EMPRESS “Golden Orb”

This is a year unlike any I’ve experienced, and it’s making my life flash before my eyes almost on a daily basis. This year feels like a collective bloodletting that’s clearing our veins of the diseased platelets of patriarchy, racism, and unfettered capitalism. What have you been doing to cope? How deep into yourself have you been diving to find solace, or to find what’s been causing your suffering? It helps to have music that encourages my subconscious emotions to slowly, thickly bubble to the surface of my mind. This video for “Golden Orb” by Brisbane’s EMPRESS is like a scalpel for my soul, letting the old, congealed, forgotten blood ooze from my wounds and clear my energy so that I can find peace in my body. There’s no genre that neatly fits Empress’ music, but they pull from those dark, cathartic sounds of post rock, shoegaze, and doom that I find so healing.
