I’ve never been in a catacomb, but I have been in places that felt like despair and death. Places like tenement buildings in New York City where the energy threatened to squeeze the breath from my lungs. Like a close in Edinburgh where the atmosphere reeked of putrescent plague and poverty. I’ve never been in a catacomb, but I imagine that THRONE‘s new record Ossarium encompasses the feeling of being underground, buried in human remains. The skin-shearing, buzzsaw riffs create the most ominous feeling deep in my bones. The vocals are guttural, violently destructive to my eardrums. The percussion turns the entire sound into a massive, echoing, oceanic experience. THRONE calls this blackened sludge, but it sounds more apocalyptic than that to me. Ossarium comes out via Dusktone tomorrow — pre-order it here — but today you can hear it in full with our exclusive premiere below.
