Even as a kid, the simpering perfection of the Family Circus pissed me off. Somehow, this immensely annoying cartoon has become the most widely syndicated comic in the world, and it’s published in almost 1,500 newspapers worldwide. Just thinking about that makes me mad. So when I saw Ed Harrington’s renditions of The Family Circus, they put a huge smile on my face! Harrington is a master of combining pop culture, horror, cartoons, and comics together in a distorted, disturbing mix that is just amazing to behold. Nothing is sacred, even these consonant-droppin’ toddlers, who are terrorized by some of the most iconic horror characters of our time. Want to see Billy about to be massacred by Leatherface, or kneecapped by Kathy Bates? How about Dolly being murdered by Freddy Krueger? Baby PJ skinned alive or as Pinhead? No one is safe from Harrington’s twisted imagination, and finally, The Family Circus makes me laugh!
