Rueben Wu wants us to see how we take our home planet for granted. His stunning photography blends the natural state of Earth’s landscapes with drone-powered lights to create UFO-like lights and shapes dancing in powerful scenes. Wu captures the air, earth, water, and fire that make up our living plane in ways that show their mystery and majesty.
Many describe my work as ‘otherworldly’ but my aim ISN’T to produce alien-looking images, it’s actually to remind people that this is our own planet, and it’s all we have.
– Rueben Wu
Wu’s photos are eerie and enthralling, and they remind me of the feeling I get whenever I travel somewhere new, a place with a completely foreign landscape to the Pacific North West I grew up in. I’ve marvelled at how nonchalant locals are about the stunning scenery they pass by every day. Then I remind myself that many days, I go about my business without pausing to appreciate the six peaks of the North Shore mountains that overlook my home.
Yes, there are supernatural elements imposed with drones and lasers (I think) and digital cameras, but he uses them to elevate the natural beauty in the rocks, lakes, skies, and moments he’s committing to pixel and paper. Check out some of his breathtaking scenes here:
