It’s not always easy picking up a band and moving across the country but if there’s anyone who can pull it off with the grace of a lark it’s emblematic deathrockers TEMPLE. Started in Minneapolis in 2018 but hailing from many crust and goth bands of days gone by, they relocated two years ago to the current seat of dark punk Portland, Oregon where they immediately fell into the lockstep gray-skied drudgery that breeds so much morosity. After a welcomed writing spell made inevitable by the virus, they’re coming out of the lockdown gate with a brand new full-length Self Ritual Torture available on Swiss Dark Nights Records. For fans of Christian Death and Screaming Dead, the lyrical content revolves around loss, grief and longing while the uptempo propulsion allows the listener to digest those emotions instead of ruminating on something that can no longer be grasped. With genius yet simplistic guitar leads dotting the outright riffage, vocalist Kalvin holds no remorse back in his eulogizing and the entire release sounds as if there’s a ghosts swirling around the studio in which it was recorded.
