I’ve been listening to post punk for decades, and one modern band that in my opinion is going to go down with the greats of the genre is SOFT KILL. They manage to create music that pays homage to the most classic of post punk sounds, and then turn around and take the genre somewhere completely new. They’re a band that has inspired countless others, but no one’s been able to replicate their sound. Every new release they put out is my new favorite, and while I’m still devouring Metta World Peace and Escape Forever, their new surprise Roseland EP that came out the beginning of this month on Born Losers Records is more than welcome in my life. Check it out below along with tour dates… they’re playing Brooklyn tonight, then they hit the road again in November for a short Florida tour. Also make sure to watch their new video for “Roseland,” especially if you’re a fan of classic gore!
The “Roseland” EP is compiled of tracks that didn’t end up on 2023’s “Metta World Peace” but deserved a life of their own. Building on a more traditional post-punk sound, both originals are a nod to what they’ve done best in the past paired with their take on Dag Nasty’s “Circles” that would fit right alongside their latest album “Escape Forever”.
