Sehseiyah (formerly The Bedroom Witch) says she chose her new artist name because it sounds like an angel’s name. And what I hear on her upcoming 620 EP lives up to her angelic name, because she’s created gauzy, layered electronic sounds that feel like they’re descending on my senses from a higher realm. The beauty of it is her sound isn’t just angelic in the merciful sense—it’s also got a heaviness that reminds you that as much as the heavens could uplift us, they could also crush us. She just released her new video for single “Paranoid” off of 620 EP, which comes out on March 7th — pre-order it here and pre-save it here. “Paranoid” feels like a heart pounding out of a chest, and even though Sehseiyah’s vocals are delicate and airy, the ominous synths and driving beats threaten to drag me under. I don’t know whether I want to dance or run but I think this track is telling me to do both. The visuals are inspired by Harmony Korine’s mind-bending films, and mirror the racing heart and mind that this track invokes. Today we’re lucky to be premiering Sehseiyah’s new video for “Paranoid” below, so hit play and lose yourself in her dark, ethereal EBM sounds…
This song is about surviving the horrors of one’s own mind and knowing that I can and will make it out as long as I trust in myself and in the love that I carry inside of me.
