I came across the work of NANDRYSHA while I was admiring the photography of Mothmeister. Her masks and paintings depict eerie, terrifying, and melancholic creatures who mirror our own disturbing emotions back at us in a fragile, gentle way. The layers and textures on each face speak to the experiences of pain and joy that so many human beings are trying to freeze and wipe away from their own faces. There’s also an innocence to each face, as if it doesn’t know how grotesque it appears to the viewer. Check out her work below…
I am interested in communicating personal reflections about feelings and conflicts as daily as passion, anguish, repression, melancholy and fear, which impels me to distort human faces and to intervene images with a degree of provocation to fear, to Rejection or fascination in each beholder, who are the ones who finally conclude their own aesthetic experience.
