For more than a decade we’ve championed unique underground expression, and one of the first bands to really embody the creativity we wanted to amplify in the world was DEAFKIDS! From the first time we played their self-titled tape in 2011 to their new release, Ritos Do Colapso, that’s coming out in 2023 via Rapid Eye Records, Nada Nada Disco (Brazil), and Lovers & Lollypops (cassette) — stay tuned for it here — DEAFKIDS have inspired us to keep searching for and sharing music that pushes every boundary we thought possible! They fuse the cultural instruments of Brazil’s Indigenous and African roots with acid-fueled psychedelic rock-meets-techno-meets-d-beat that blows my mind every time. Seeing this band live was second only to Neurosis in intensity. Their newest LP is a collection of three EPs they previously only released on digital during the pandemic, with two additional songs exclusively made for the videogame Cyberpunk 2077. This material was inspired by the dystopian climate of the pandemic, confinement, many deaths and a government crisis. It is a search for an expression of sounds that could be visual, like a soundtrack of scenarios imagined from a future perspective, emulating human sensations from a moment of humanity, reflected in our daily lives in Sao Paulo and music as a tool to stay productive and sane in the midst of a crisis.
