Fast Hardcore: Blast PROTESTSTORM’S New LP ‘Den Typ Som Överlever’

As 2025 gets underway with a slew of exciting punk and hardcore releases on the horizon, the mighty Fight For Your Mind Records is setting the bar high with PROTESTSTORM’s Den Typ Som Överlever (Survivor Type), a heavy blast of fast hardcore punk from Sweden.

Featuring Anders Jakobson and Kristofer Jankarls, whose combined resume includes bands like NASUM, KRIGSHOT, and EXIL amongst others, PROTESTSTORM lay down a monstrous 20 songs in 21 minutes, making for a fast paced and at times blink-and-you’ll miss it listen.

While stylistically this is more of a straightforward hardcore punk record than their aforementioned projects, their previous bands’ influences do poke through. Jakobsons’ blast beats in particular call back to his work in Grindcore bands like AXIS OF DESPAIR, adding an urgency and power that pairs well with Jankarls’ breakneck riffing.

Vocally, Jankarls sounds great, powerfully delivering lyrics in Swedish that focus on modern life and its challenges. In fact, everything on this record sounds great, the production is crystal clear and thoroughly showcases the talent on display, right down to Jakobson’s kick drum.

Standout moments include the gnarly bass intro of “Pusselbitar” (Puzzle Pieces), the full throated gang vocals on “Tusen Saker” (A Thousand Things), and standout “Lokalsinne Noll” (No Sense Of Direction), whose UK82 infused pummeling boasts the album’s catchiest moments. They even throw in a cover of POISON IDEA’s “Give It Up” as an extra treat and it fucking rips.

If you’re a fan of previous Fight Four Your Mind releases from MEANWHILE and HOPE?, “Den Typ Som Överlever” will be right up your alley. Pick up a copy now from Fight For Your Mind Records.
