Nine Inch Nails Pretty Hate Machine all the way live in the 90’s. NO MORE WORDS NEEDED!
I can taste the HATE in my mouth and it’s real! I can feel the HATE in my brain and it’s real! I pray...
Enjoy some MAYHEM all the way live in 1990!
CHRISTIAN DEATH is a band that means so much to me, and I know I am not alone in saying that! Check out this...

Not true, Dave. When John Coltrane kicked dope, people thought he was going to lose his edge. Instead, he went waaaaaaaay far out.

Its a shame that sobriety does nothing good for music.

Indeed! I understood that the use of drug must be taken into account and abuse destroys the precious gift of “shamanism”… the taking of a drug is only interesting if it enhance the creativity. There is a paradoxical element ( as always) to it which consist at being able to go all the way without getting caught into the abyss of addiction.
Some artist have taken drugs all their lives and for a very long time but in such a way that they have not been caught into the extreme and forced for Life sake to stop it all… and this not just with musicians. William Burroughs, Lord Byron, etc…
On the other hand, those who stopped for life-sake. (All the good to them , though! )
I am thinking of one example like : Blixa Bargeld who was totally into it in the early EN and got out of it but now what… I can’t enjoy the one he is now and the band anymore! Early EN were pure genius.

Horseshit . Drugs are an aid , not a means .

Name me one artist who got better after becoming sober. I’m not denying that it happens, I just can’t think of any.

Dave Sherk Devin Townsend, and even for him, that’s debattable. But his voice surely improved a lot

August 15, 2017 at 4:10 am
Never been a SYL fan so I can’t really be the judge of that one, but I can’t argue against it.
Pied O'Cul
August 15, 2017 at 4:18 am
That’s precisely because of sobriety (this and other things) he stopped SYL, because it was self-destructive yelling “FUCK YOOOOOOU” at strangers every night.
His solo stuff definitely is different, but he has crafted dozen of gems in the pasts 10 years (oh my, time flies), so I’d say it has be beneficial to him. But again, that’s debattable, as SYL hardcore fans strongly disagree with me

Thing with Devon Townsend is that guy is legitimately fucked up – drugs were just feeding the flame. Smart as shit but in the – get naked and eat your own shit crazy. Hes just good at hiding it now lol
Pied O'Cul

Chip Powell Don’t know, he seems genuinly at peace now, partly because he has become a father.
I’ve read his autobiography, it was really interesting to dive into his mind.

Charlie Solus
August 15, 2017 at 11:33 am
Dave, John Coltrane not only got better, but he got creative as hell once he kicked dope. Admittedly, he’s the only one I can think of.
Marcia, perhaps the sound of Einstürzende Neubauten has changed over the years not only because of drugs and the lack thereof, but because of Blixa, Hacke, and Unruh growing older, their tastes changing, and their financial situations improving. As much as I love all EN records, I do miss the fire in their early ones. Of course, I can’t expect a person in his or her 50’s to make the same record they did in their 20’s, unless they’re in Slayer.
Dave Sherk

Woah Woah Woah Woah. I get music is subjective, but we really can’t compare modern Slayer to OG Slayer.
Charlie Solus
August 15, 2017 at 12:31 pm
I knew that was coming! Generally speaking, Slayer have maintained a consistent, solid sound. True, they’ll never top Reign In Blood, but they haven’t strayed far from the formula like Metallica did.
