Ötzi capture a different side of darkness in their deathrock sound. It’s not the darkness of mayhem and murder, it’s the darkness of a shadow cast so deeply that it obscures your view of who may be standing in it. It’s a shadow that people can get lost in, but Ötzi’s sound rings forth from it like a beacon of hope bred from survival. Today we’re excited to be sharing their video for the track “Moths” – one of my favorite creatures of the night. It’s off their recent release Storm that came out on Artoffact Records on May 22nd – you can pick it up here. Right now, the patriarchy is shining its spotlights everywhere but the places we should be looking, so keep your eyes on the shadows…
We ascribe punk and feminist ethics to how we navigate the world, and that’s something that will never change… Right now, so many people are reeling in horror at all the events lately, from the COVID-19 pandemic to George Floyd’s murder. But for some of us, sometimes the scariest thing is to look at ourselves and see what has to change from within. This song celebrates that change.
