As any follower of West Coast heaviness, you should be well aware that when these titanic veterans unite, you’re in for an auditory disembowelment. Formed in 2019 by frontwoman Cunnus (Marcelle Marais) with collaborators Sonny Reinhardt (Necrot) Dustin Ponkoh (Dipygus) and session drummer Avinash Mittur, VORLUST takes the power of carnage to its primal origin of femininity. In their new music video ‘Tormenta’ serving as the first single off their upcoming LP Lick The Flesh, their fresh combination of death metal, thrash, and grind douse us in blood and beckon us to face the omniscient serpent at the heart of our animality.
The ferocious Great Mother possessing the capabilities of life creator and life destroyer. Interweaving confrontational illuminations of puritanical systems and the hunger to destroy that which oppresses. These coalesce through tales of the hunt and relations between predator and prey all of which circle back to the present human experience wherein these systems and dynamics exist.
Cunnus
The video itself is a collaboration between Cunnus and Eva Tusquets, a renowned filmmaker and performance artist residing in New York. Formed to provide a feeling of being back inside the womb of the Great Mother, the evocation immediately displays the violent and carnal, with blood gushing between thighs and the serpent incarnate fluctuating between eternal cycles of birth and death. Lick the Flesh will be released later this year followed by an East Coast Tour. Stay up to date with them here and enjoy the untamed primeval lust of ‘Tormenta’!
