Germany-based photographer Sandra Hoyn documented the life of a bizarre couple, Dirk and Jenny. The only difference from other modern couples is that Jenny is not a real person but a doll.
Hoyn first met Dirk via an internet forum and decided to document his interesting love story and share it with the world.
Dirk, whose real name is not revealed, is 40 years old, works from home and has been married before Jenny.
According to Dirk, Jenny came into his life after a psychological breakdown that led him to buy the doll. Dirk believes that the doll loves him the way he does and sees her as a person who came on this earth from another planet.
In Jenny’s Soul, Hoyn captures tender, intimate moments between the two, documenting Dirk’s unconventional lifestyle.
His partner stays hidden from his friends and family, even from his child and his ex-wife. One of his biggest fantasies is that one day he will be able to bring Jenny out in the public, while he is afraid of what will happen to her when he grows old.
For Dirk, Jenny is a fragile, vulnerable being both on the inside and the outside and he protects and takes care of her.
For Hoyn, Dirk and Jenny are nothing more than just an unconventional couple, with a similar routine as everybody, and hopes her images will break through the judgement of Dirk’s relationship choice.
