Chéri Hérourard was a well known illustrator for popular French magazines throughout the early to mid 1900s, but behind the scenes he was Herric – an illustrator of erotica, mostly of the spanking kind. His imagery is playful and queer, showing women happily spanking each other, applying what look to be douches, and mostly smiling away as they do and receive it. Herric’s illustrations show women enjoying sex and sexuality in an almost innocent way; there’s no hint of the wantonness or judgement that is normally associated with women depicted in sex acts. Their smiles are filled with genuine pleasure (except when they aren’t), making these images a genuine pleasure to behold.
