Every year since we started this blog, Sean and I have dreamed about going to Roadburn. For a while in 2019, we toyed with the idea that 2020 would be the year we made it, but it’s really hard for us underground music journalist parents to get our shit together (read: $$$). It’s wild that 2020 is actually the first year with no Roadburn since 1999. So we need to look to the past to enjoy the magic of this experience, and today we’re honored to share this live footage of MESSA performing “She Knows/Tulsi” live at Roadburn 2019, the fest’s 20th anniversary. These tracks are off their album Feast for Water, which came out via Aural Music in 2018 and the album is as powerful today as it was then. Read what the band has to say about their experience at this legendary event, and then watch them captivate the room below…here’s to success in 2021!
Last year we played Roadburn festival. It was the first time for us and, of course, we were all beyond excited to participate in what we believe to be one of the best settings for so many kinds of independent music ever. The whole experience turned out to be one of the most intriguing and intense moments in our musical and personal lives so far. The amount of love from the audience and the commitment of the staff itself were so overwhelmingly strong that we felt part of a bigger unity, really. Now we have the pleasure to share a song from that set.
The video was filmed in the now-extinct Het Patronaat by Laura Sans and Mattia Mura. Live audio recording mixed and mastered by Daniel Grego at Mal de Testa Studio.
