Right now I’m entranced by the ethereal and macabre artwork of CANDICE ANGELINI! She taps into the little death in side of all of us, the end that’s there from our very beginning, the last breath that looms ever closer from our first. She captures our slow decay in the subtle textures of their skin, the cracks and fissures every generation seems more and more desperate to erase. She brings emotions to the surface and disease to the exterior, pulling back the veil our bodies cloak us with and revealing the pain our substances dull. When her subjects’ eyes are closed, they are looking inward, away from our gaze. When they are open, they’re asking us to see ourselves in their eyes.
