It’s really disappointing when you watch an artist cannibalized by the capitalist music machine. It’s like the death knell for their creativity has rung, but at the same time, they’re about to cash in on their hard work and talent. It recently happened with two of my favorite artists being eaten by Justin Bieber, and between that and the news that Amazon is still not yet unionized, I need an outlet for my rage. I’m so fucking sick of our system’s way of squeezing the life from us in exchange for outrageous profits, and so is FEED THEM DEATH. Listening to their new album Negative is balm for my soul right now. I hit play on a universe of unrelenting death metal that is punishing my eardrums in the most pleasurably violent way! This is music that refuses to be exploited. It lights my inner fires, encourages me to throw my oppressors into them, and dance to their screams as they burn. Why are we so easily manipulated by people who only want to burden us with a cumbersome ego and insatiable greed? I’ve spent the past year actively unlearning what Feed them Death calls “The Idiotic Yearning for More (Barbarism of Perfection)” because I’ve realized, it really is idiotic to want more than what I have in the present moment. Yearning for more makes me unhappy, and it makes some rich fuck richer. Negative is out via Brucia Records on May 7th – you can pre-order it here. Today we’re excited to share with you an exclusive premiere of their track “The Idiotic Yearning for More (Barbarism of Perfection),” so let this wild ride take you somewhere scary!
Negative is my third full-length album with Feed Them Death, and the intent was to deconstruct and remodel various influences into something unique, terrifying, and dissonant.
The new album represents a further progression into the realm of experimentation, however still retaining a fast and aggressive modus operandi typical of my death-grind upbringings, now evolved incorporating many heterogeneous elements such as Sludge, Doom, Harsh Noise and Drone.
The song we are premiering today in particular fuses Death Metal and dissonant grind with slower parts featuring even some clean vocals.
Negative means a backdrop of negation against the sad spectacle of the modern world, with the aim of unfolding and revealing the process of commoditization of art (and modern music too, be it pop or underground) within the cogwheels of consumerism, and perhaps even the disingenuousness of so-called creativity within a society built to actually tame individuality, and leaving us all to idiotically yearn for more and more of the same things.
Feed Them Death’s sound is negative music for Anti-positivist thinkers – aimed at the disenfranchised, as in those deprived of the safety cushion of positivist logic, and willing to accept experimentalism in music.
