Lay Down Your Weapons and Follow Me to Your Dream Pop Leader SPELLLING

Today I discovered my soundtrack to watching the world as we’ve been told to know it crumble away, and it’s everything SPELLLING has ever released. Imagine if an angel heard Kate Bush sing and then decided to descend to earth to invite us to follow her into another world full of dreamy bliss. Hit play on her video for “Turning Wheel” and you might just jump through the screen and join me in dancing on the hill with Spellling.

The music Spellling makes is both otherworldly and earthly at the same time. It feels like she’s gathered up the lessons of her countless lifetimes and channeled them into compositions that may only span a few minutes, but each one carries an eternity of emotional and spiritual wisdom. Her ethereal voice, experimental sounds, and enlightened words feel like they were meant to inspire joy and it’s working.

Most of her work has been a solo effort, but on her most recent record, The Turning Wheel, she orchestrated and produced the album with 31 collaborating musicians. The Turning Wheel came out in June on Sacred Bones Records — get it right here. See SPELLLING live at Homesick Fest 2022 in Berkeley — get tickets here. Right now, take yourself on a journey through her sparkling universe…
