Dark Folk

let it Burn and Rise from the Ashes… KARITI “Kybele’s Kiss”

The world is in mourning right now; some of us for the ancestors and comrades lost to a system of relentless power and greed; others are mourning the burning and crumbling of that same system. KARITI‘s Covered Mirrors is warning us not to let the demons of regret, guilt, and anger in while we mourn. Not to allow the negativity to fester and rot our open wounds. We need to be healing, and letting the shaken structures fall so that we can build a new, solid foundation together. The soundtrack to this building could very well be her song “Kybele’s Kiss” – viscerally beautiful and haunting dark folk that sees our pain and holds a healing hand over it. You need to tear yourself away from the chaos and fury that empires of hate are built upon and watch this video so that you can be reminded that love and creation are just on the other side of the coin. We can’t rid our world of either, but we can choose to pay with one and not the other. Covered Mirrors comes out via Aural Music on September 18th – pre-order it here. Right now, watch our exclusive premiere of “Kybele’s Kiss” below…

Kybele’s Kiss is the third song off Covered Mirrors and explores love and death through the prism of womanhood. The record is a personal journey through bereavement and this song is also partly inspired by the myths surrounding Kybele, an enigmatic ancient goddess, the central figure of an ecstatic cult and the protectress of graves, among other things. This is the first song of the album to have a full visual representation created by Laura and Anna – two very talented independent filmmakers in Italy, I hope you enjoy it.
