One of the most important things for bringing joy into my existence is the endless creativity of humanity. I know that whatever dark path we travel on, we will always find a spark of creation to light our way. Listening to Swiss black grind project ICARE‘s track “Déliquescence, Déchéance” might seem like a strange way to find joy for some people. But for me, diving into our most shadowy ways is the best way to live a happy and fulfilled life. If we don’t shine our light on the darkness, the shadows become our entire world – and I think you can see how a fixation on a false narrative of glory and freedom has allowed us to hide the shadows of terror and oppression. ICARE take their inspiration from the Lovecraft universe, and the degeneration of the human mind when confronted with the meaninglessness of their supposed achievements. What is a statue erected to celebrate honor and freedom, when it’s foundation rests in soil bloodied by genocide? Why do people go mad when they’re confronted with the reality that without evil there is no good? You can feel this madness in the furious, grinding black metal that this project unleashes on the world in their forthcoming record Khaos that comes out via Division Records on October 30th – pre-order it here. The pre-order is for an extremely limited 52 pieces worldwide tape, hand-numbered in a fully printed matchbox that comes with a human tooth. Very apt for a record that sounds like it would drive a sleeping human to pull out their own teeth in their anguish at realizing the system they’ve pledged allegiance to doesn’t exist. Hit play on our exclusive and brutal stream of “Déliquescence, Déchéance” below…
