Photographers Gold & Cummings aka The London Vagabond capture gorgeously claustrophobic images of the UK’s BDSM community that showcase fetish as an art. Which it is — to me, it’s always been far more theatre than porn. There’s a personal element to the encounters that these two are able to get on film without making it feel too voyeuristic, and at the same time, they capture the act of performance that’s also an important component for any fetish gathering. The resulting pictures contain that tension between being immersed in your own pleasure and being seen. The London vagabond are London based lovers and fetishists. The work made together is partly a reflection of their lifestyle – of male submissive and female dominant perspectives – but also an honest and unapologetic portrayal of human sexuality. The artists themselves are often the subjects of their own work, as well as focusing their lens on the parts of society that often remain behind closed doors.
They are interested in the relationship between the lens and the erotic, whether that’s by the subject flirting with the camera with their eyes or the presence of the camera fulfilling part of a fantasy for the person involved.
