Let’s not get it twisted — 2020 was always going to be a year of disruption. The corrupt system knew it. The BLM movement had been gathering momentum for years. The climate action movement was steadily making an impact on policy. Here in Canada, a plastic bag ban was announced at the beginning of 2020. The Wetʼsuwetʼen were standing in the way of the LNG pipeline, and the settler people were standing with them, shutting down trains and causing an economic panic. In the US, California was literally burning.
Luckily, a pandemic came along to keep us isolated, churn out disposables, and make the billionaires into trillionaires. Well, what’s next? Because the people haven’t forgotten that we’re being exploited daily by soulless overlords.
That’s why songs like PSYCHIC HIT‘s “California Burnin'” have my soul singing. They bring that glorious classic sound to our new reality — it’s not Satan they’re singing about. Instead, they’re reminding us that no matter how many government-sanctioned vaccines you get, human beings are still on a bullet train to extinction. Personally, I love the heavy metal rallying cry of “You can’t kill the people’s will” and I’m really done with the whole system-apologist “keep politics out of music” bullshit. It’s not politics at this point, it’s the survival of every organism on this planet. “California Burnin'” is off their new record Solutio that comes out July 9th via Seeing Red Records — pre-order it here. Today we’re stoked to bring you their video, and I hope it makes your soul burn for justice the way mine does.
