As our population explodes and we accelerate the polluting of our home planet, I’m trying to return to a place where I can be with myself. Because the frenzy of human activity that’s becoming increasingly chaotic around the world is accompanied by constant distraction, and many of us spend most of our waking hours with a feed of voices in our heads that aren’t our own. I’m trying to get back to a place where I can hear my thoughts and see my imagination instead of allowing my screens to think and see for me. That’s why the soundscapes that Mkl Anderson, aka DREKKA, creates are resonating with me in a new way. Just closing my eyes and listening to his set for Norcal Noisefest 2020 has my brainwaves returning to a place of peace and connection. He uses myriad field recordings and his own breath to take us on a delicate dance through our own nervous system on the two tracks he performs in the set, “Sense of Senses” and “Lissajous.” Both tracks are off his cult record Examinations 2016 – 2018, which just saw its first-time vinyl release via Fabrica and Red Frost Industries on October 30th – order it here. Drekka’s music feels like a gathering of nature’s sounds into an elegant stream of consciousness that might take us out of confusion and into intuition. Enjoy our premiere of his Live at Norcal Noisefest 2020 set below…
