Has the worst finally happened? If you’re caught up in the CIA-approved information mindswarm, you’re probably waking up every day thinking it’s your last, and scrambling to ensure you’re getting your piece of the crumbling system pie. But according to HAUNTED HORSES, The Worst Has Finally Happened, and they’ve dedicated their new album to the anxious spiral that keeps your money flowing into the right pockets. And their industrial punk sound is the perfect vehicle for the turmoil of fear and neurosis that sits at the foundation of capitalism — the thudding of production, the grinding of human bodies as they feed the machine. The comforting drone of AI wrapping its uncaring algorithms around our suffering minds. Every day, “civilization” makes me yearn more and more for our “primitive” past. The Worst Has Finally Happened was manifested through an onslaught of synthesizers, phone recordings of machinery, contact mics, and a focus on isolation. As much of the writing took place outside of the practice space, we were able to experiment with process and structures. We found a strong stride when adding a destroyed cymbal to the drums which is featured prominently throughout the record, and served as a device for driving momentum. As songs took form, Bass was brought in to add cohesion to the noise structures. The cacophony quickly grew in mass and the tone of the record was set.
