What’s more late-stage capitalist dystopia than walking around in a synthetic skin suit that stops anything from coming in contact with you, even air? I don’t know if that’s what VACATION was getting at on their new video for the single “Kink,” but the visuals kinda make me think about dressing up in sexy human trash bags. Almost like we turn nature into waste and then humiliate it in a gimp suit before tossing it into a suffocating pile. These thoughts feel on-brand for the weirdo rock ‘n roll with a surf punk streak I’m listening to. Like it’s not a commentary on kink but a commentary on how we objectify the world around us. But even though my brain’s heading in a dystopian direction, the music is danceable, singable, and sonically optimistic, so I guess not all hope is lost! Their new record RARE EARTH comes out on May 3rd via Feel It Records — pre-order it here. Right now, check out VACATION’s brand new video for “Kink” here:
The powder keg of civilization as we know it is particularly vulnerable to the spark that swallows our very existence.
