Get Pissed With the UKHC Punk of SHOOTING DAGGERS Manic Pixie Dream Girl & Missandra 7″

When punk first emerged it was all about providing a space for people who felt rejected by—or chose to leave—mainstream ideologies. At some point, punk stopped holding up a broken mirror to society and instead began to reflect it, allowing space for misogyny and homophobia, and silence drowned in alcohol.

So here we are in 2021 still facing the same issues of exclusion and violence, and I’m happy to report that London’s Shooting Daggers is ready to impale all apologists and predators on their UKHC blade. They set their burning rage alight on a foundation of punishing beats and thrashing riffs that would leave anyone who enters the pit with permanent damage! They’re channeling the anti-system fury of everyone who’s ever felt like they’re drowning in an undertow of hateful, cowardly, patriarchal shit and offering them a hand to pull them out.

MANIC PIXIE DREAM GIRL/MISSANDRA is coming out on 7″ via New Heavy Sounds on October 29th and you can pre-order it here. And right now you can feel their wrath crushing your thick skull because we’re streaming it below!

Manic Pixie Dream Girl” is about the movie trope from the same name. It’s a stock character that has no discernible inner life. It’s usually a cis woman that only exists to make the main character (usually a cis man) look good and to provide the protagonist important life lessons. The MPDG trope also occurs in real life, at least in my experience. I personally felt like a MPDG in my romantic relationships and the lyrics are the words of a manic pixie dream girl if she could actually be heard. Claiming that she is someone and stating how bad it feels to be nothing else but someone’s sexy stooge.

“Missandra” is about deconstructing the concept of Misandry. Misandry is not discrimination, misandry is a healthy reaction to oppression.
