To be filed under ‘slightly below bestial’. Whereas the bestial bands seem to exist in a world of exaggeration, that where all resemblance of form is lost behind blur, distortion and the right to push cacophony, Witchcraft Sadomizer turn it down a notch by letting our sense of appreciation get the best of it. Pay attention, shut all background noise and let your ears absorb all the in your face raunchiness and straightahead riffage. That is not to say that there is a huge distance between this recording and any other bestial release of 2017, at least in terms of violence and aural flagellation, it is all in the same ballpark.
As far as I can tell, the charmingly titled Mouth Fucking Black Holes is the first recording of this Israeli project. Not much information is divulged outside song titles and the very telling cover artwork. The color scheme is familiar, while the artwork itself pushes for rejection from anyone with a sense of decency.
Sonically though there is much to sink your teeth into. As violently as the songs start and come to abrupt ends, there is feeling and craft within. While the all-out bestial bands care very little about nuanced tonality, the Sadomizer in question likes to play with the full fret and most strings. Appreciate the eerie tonality of “Schizophrenic Roots” or the black metal high notes that take shape in “Kill Goat Dead Spree.” Adorned by ultra guttural and sub human vocals and sparkled about with seismic segments with doom roots, the track is a highlight in a recording that slowly opens itself up to all those willing to submit themselves.
There is much to appreciate in Mouth Fucking Holy Black Holes. The aggressiveness and bluntness of the recording is just one aspect of it. Those not willing to submerge themselves in the full experience may miss the point. Familiar trivialities abound, the artist we are sure understands but the music itself will strip the paint off your castle or your mom’s basement.
