How is the current necessary social isolation affecting you? I’ll admit – when we first started social distancing, I experienced a ton of disruption and anxiety, but I pretty soon slipped into acceptance and peace. Only now, six months into an existence that’s involved very limited social interaction with anyone outside my immediate family and no live music, am I starting to realize the real impacts of social distancing. It’s changing my brain. It’s making me question my associations. It’s making me question the motives of everyone around me. I’m disconnecting from people I thought I was friends with. The anonymous Hamburg darkwave project DARK has released a new video for their third single “Avoid Everyone,” and it captures the surreal world we find ourselves in now. Using distant vocals, gothic imagery from the lovely Void Noir, clean synths, and crisp electronic beats, DARK recreates the pressure I’m feeling close in on me when I have no outlet besides my own mind (or the same 3 people I’ve been dealing with 24/7 for 6 months).
