For financial reasons and because I’m not a fan of many hours of pain, I prefer to collect smaller tattoos. But I have a lot of admiration for larger pieces and the people brave enough to get them. Brazilian tattoo artist Frederico Rabelo is a master of his craft, creating pieces that capture the natural world in a dark and moving way. The artistry that goes into these works is intense; Rabelo has an eye for the perfect placement and his etching style requires a steady hand to work in such fine lines and shading. He takes a seasonal approach to tattooing, and is currently working on a project called Ye Are Gods, in which he is offering specific concepts and placements to develop a story that spans bodies around the world. The project is based around Rabelo’s reflections “upon the way man interacts with the world, nature and divinity.” Rabelo will be in NYC this year and has his waitlist open, so if any brave souls are reading this, get one for me!
