There’s so many layers to life and death, and I appreciate art that explores them all. Arturo Rivera paints scenes that bring together the mind, body, and spirit in a dream-like state. His paintings are weird and disjointed like the place our souls go when we let our waking hours fall away from us. They’ve got a malevolent atmosphere like a nightmare world, but the subjects don’t seem interested in wounding anyone but themselves. I could see these paintings decorating the walls of the red room in Twin Peaks. Enjoy this gallery of Rivera’s work, and if this is where you go tonight, you can blame me.
