DOME RUNNER describes itself as industrial metal, but when I listen to “SUBVERSION SHOCK,” I feel like I’ve been thrown into a vat of LSD in the middle of a manufacturing plant and I’m having the most intense psychedelic sonic experiences of my life. It’s got industrial and metal, overlaid with psych and alternative rock, with an anxious ominous tambourine heartbeat that’s reminding me of Beck’s “Fucking with my head.” And that’s probably because this song and video is fucking with my head in the best way possible! It’s off their forthcoming record apocalypse.pulse.worship. that comes out via ANNIHILVS and SUPERFI RECORDS on September 1st — pre-order it here. The record includes a Theologian remix of “Undemonizing Process” from the band’s debut full-length, Conflict State Design. Today we’re very happy to be premiering the video for “SUBVERSION SHOCK” below…
We shot the video in this machinery room at our rehearsal place in Tampere, Finland. While not originally planned, it proved to be the only right way to film, direct and edit the whole thing ourselves, mainly by our drummer Otto. We also wanted to collaborate with VJ Mikrovision, who has also done visuals occasionally for our live shows, and her input totally nailed what we were looking for. Lyrically, the song itself is reflecting the realisation of how being open and seeking to understand instead of blind judgment is often seen as weakness, while it should be seen as what it truly is: strength. How we share a constant urge to prove a point and define the ever changing… and how it all eventually stems from our personal escape to the void while running amok from who we truly are: human and individual.
