The past year has changed all of us, hopefully for the better. What inspired us and drove us forward before the world shifted seems almost like meaningless distraction, and in its place, we’ve hopefully found that same inspiration within. All this to say, change is healthy and I look forward to coming together to see how my community has shifted to create a space for our individuality in the coming years. The Brooklyn doom trio Priestess is embracing that change, now taking on the persona of the Reverend Mother – but that doesn’t mean their music is any less doomy or unholy than it was before. Today we’re excited to share their video “Becoming Reverend Mother” set to a soundtrack of their track “Fear and Loathing” off their s/t EP due out later this year. Hit play and take communion from the Reverend Mother of doom below…
Brooklyn three-piece Priestess has reincarnated as Reverend Mother, due to put out their first S/T EP under the new moniker. They are still led by songwriter and Black Sabbath enthusiast Jackie Green, who cut her teeth as a guitarist in local bands like Evil Daughter. Despite the name change, the band remains steadfast in their devotion to doom metal and psychedelic rock, with the EP offering up the same looming riffs, skuzzy reverbs, and haunting vocals Green has studied and refined to make her own.
