This morning, I woke up feeling like my guts were plotting a quick escape. Luckily that passed just in time for me to watch Hands Up Who Wants to Die‘s new video for “Nausea.” Somehow this band has managed to capture the putrid sensations, downtuned energy, and vile queasiness of my suffering and feed it back to me through my ear holes. The video by Rory O’Brien is the perfect visual accompaniment to this pleasurably painful sonic experience. “Nausea” is off their new record, Nil All, that’s out now via Sleeping Giant Glossolalia and Human Worth — order it here. As of publishing this, they’ve got three east coast dates left on their US tour, so make sure to check those below (OH and NY)! Right now, let the disorienting noise rock of HUWWTD take you out with their video for “Nausea”!
“Nausea” is a time traveling mystery/love story. Lyrics revolve around a malfunctioning time-device and the protagonist’s disorientation. The idea for the story came from Daniel Clowes’ ‘Patience’ and Chris Marker’s ‘La Jetée’ (and Terry Gilliam’s ’12 Monkeys’). The idea for the video spawned from the still photos used in ‘La Jetée’. It is composed of 100s of images taken over the past few years and put together in an order meant to invoke a feeling of nostalgia and being lost chronologically.
