If there’s one constant in the history of governments, it’s that whatever the political system is, whatever our governing structure is, it’s the best that it’s ever been and the best it ever could be. Until it isn’t, because someone else wants to come to power. It’s almost as if we need to re-think the entire concept of power structures, why the exist as they do, who they benefit, and whether they’re even necessary. Listening to Adam “Nergal” Darski of the legendary Behemoth describe his upbringing in post-WWII Poland, and the continued crackdown on anyone who dares to criticize the reigning law and religion, helps me understand why it’s so important that we never take the system at its word. We need to look to its actions for the truth, not its words. Nergal is fearless in using his voice, even when what he’s saying may put his own human rights at risk. I’m watching his unreleased biopic called Adam the Apostate: Nergal the Heretic from brilliant director Claudio Marino of Artax Film, and the story is utterly captivating and the imagery is gorgeous. This is the latest in Marino’s series of biopics of underground musicians and artists, which includes films about controversial figures like Niklas Kvarforth of Shining, Erik “E” Danielsson of Watain, and German tattoo artist Little Swastika. Today we’re excited to be sharing the trailer for this film, which you can pre-order right here. Stay tuned for more on this in the weeks to come…
