I have an embarrassing confession to make. I’m not a big fan of horror movies. Yes, I’ve seen most of these movies. Yes, I am low key obsessed with crime and serial murder and I could spit facts about pretty much any serial killer’s MO that you can think of. But there’s something about the genre of horror that makes me so uncomfortable that I refuse to watch most of them with my 13 year old daughter who loves both true crime and horror. I think it’s the emotional manipulation of the soundtracks, the voracious camera angles, the way I’m led to see myself as the victim. Maybe instead of interrogating why I don’t like horror, I need to interrogate why true crime doesn’t scare me. I’ll do that later.
For some reason, while I’m watching a horror movie, I’m incapable of reminding myself that these are actors, the violence isn’t real, it’s all a fantasy and a story. Today most of what I’m seeing is CGI. But I’m enjoying these behind the scenes photos from some of the most well-known horror movie sets of the past. Check them out here:
