Am I the only one who’s gotten into gambling in the past couple of years? I use the term “gambling” loosely to describe my bleak hope that the occasional lottery ticket might be the jackpot winner to deliver me from the pressure of an ever-expanding cost of living. I know its not just me, because I swear there’s a lineup at every Lotto counter in Vancouver. It’s like, maybe the only solution to capitalism-induced stress is to suddenly gain entry to the golden gates of elite capitalism. But watching the new video from CHONCY for their song “Dead Meat” has me realizing how hilarious it is that I participate in what’s just another lie that keeps the farce going. Buy this shit for an infinitesimal chance at buying yet more shit. Their lo-fi, raw garage punk sound is beating the compliant wimp out of me. The angular riffs and relentless beats are forcing me to wake up to the fact that whatever I do, this system wasn’t made for me, and the house always wins in the end. “Dead Meat” is off their new album 20X MULTIPLIER that’s out March 8th on Feel It Records — get it here.
