What if this world is all we have? Those are the twists and turns my mind is taking while I listen to the new album from Spelljammer called Abyssal Trip. This doom trio takes us to the depths of our own planet, the places we don’t aspire to live in, to see just how deep, cold, and dark it can get. The closer we get to the planet’s core, the more mystery we encounter, to the point where we’d rather shoot ourselves in a capsule 70 miles into space because it’s easier than going six miles below the surface of the ocean. For that, you’ll need this crushingly heavy doom album, so hop in and descend into places that humanity hasn’t been able to touch.
