Revenge is like fast food. It beckons you in with the alluring smell of fat and salt and sugar, it prostrates itself before you in its abundance, begging you to enjoy the manufactured pleasure of taste and texture – and then it makes you sick. The more you give in to it, the sicker you get, the poison starts to pulse through your body and taint every cell. Intuitively, I feel like City of Industry‘s video for their track “False Flowers” is cautioning me about the temptation of revenge – the sweet, fleeting victory of crushing those that have crushed you – and reminding me that only I can heal the wounds I’ve sustained on the battleground of life. The blood of our enemies won’t sate us, the only thing that can quell that hunger is knowledge of self. But sometimes, you need to watch your enemies burn first.
This is just one of the seductive metallic hardcore tracks off their forthcoming album False Flowers that’s out on December 4th via Amerikan Aesthetics Records. You can pre-order it here – they’ve got some beautiful vinyl to choose from, plus if you buy one of their limited test pressings they’re donating 100% of the profits to Mary’s Place, a Seattle woman and children’s shelter. Big, big respect for that! And just like an abusive partner, the thing our oppressors want to hide from us is our own power because it terrifies them, and City of Industry’s rage and despair-filled songs feel like they’re opening something in me so that I can see who’s really there and what I’m capable of. This is music that ceases all distractions and demands you feel something. So hit play on our exclusive premiere of their video for “False Flowers” below and let the emotion open you to your self.
We are donating 100% of the profits from these test pressings to Mary’s Place; a local Seattle woman and children’s shelter based in the heart of downtown. Mary’s Place has been doing amazing work and helping woman and their families for years and truly make a big impact and need our continued help and support! Thank You!
