Christer Strömholm (1918-2002) was a Swedish photographer whose work is captivating in a challenging way. His portraits almost always contain a grotesque element, something that makes me stop and sit in a moment of revulsion before I let myself absorb the beauty of the full image. He’s best known for the years he spent capturing the beauty of the transgender women of Paris, at a time when these women were “the most unwanted people” in society. But others of his photographs are creepy and unsettling as hell. Broken dolls, writhing animals, babies in cages…you need to go through the collection of his work below to see it for yourself…
